Instagram’s messaging function, known as DM (Direct Messages), is one of the most widely used on the network. This new update brings it closer to traditional messaging.
Edit your messages after sending them ✏️
No more typos in your Instagram messages. From now on, you can edit your messages up to 15 minutes after they’ve been sent. To do so, long-press on the message you wish to edit. From the drop-down menu, select « Edit ». Once you’ve done this, simply validate your new message.
Pin chats to the top of the inbox 📍
Here’s another feature borrowed from traditional messaging: the ability to pin messages to the top of discussions. Like its cousin WhatsApp, you can pin up to 3 private or group chats to the top of your inbox. To pin a chat to the top of your inbox, swipe left or long-press on the chat, then select « pin ». You can choose to unpin a conversation at any time.
Enable or disable read receipts 👀
It is now possible to enable or disable read receipts for all your discussions, or just some of them.
To activate or deactivate read receipts for all chats :
-
Go to account settings
-
Tap Messages and story replies
-
Tap Show read receipts
-
Toggle read receipts on or off for all of your chats
Something new for stickers😜
If you’re a stickers fan, you’re going to love this new feature in DMs. Now you can save your favorite stickers in instant messages for easy access. Simply press and hold the sticker you want to save. The next time you view the stickers, it will be at the top of the page. But that’s not all.
Reply options now include stickers, GIFs, videos, photos and voice messages. These will appear when you reply to a message, by tapping on it and selecting « Reply ».
