From 10 to 20: Instagram Doubles Its Carousel Capacity 📸

Instagram continues to improve user experience by responding to the needs of its most active members. Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has announced a major update that doubles the sharing capacity in carousel posts.

A New Limit of 20 Photos and Videos 🚀

Until now, Instagram users were limited to a maximum of 10 items per post, whether photos or videos. This limitation forced those wanting to share more content to create multiple posts, which could be tedious. With the new update, Instagram now allows up to 20 items to be grouped in a single carousel, offering more flexibility and simplicity.

This feature is currently being rolled out worldwide and should be available on all devices in the coming days. Although most users may not feel the need to share so much content at once, this new limit will be particularly useful for those who wish to publish series of photos or videos without having to compromise.

Since its launch in 2017, Instagram’s carousel has regularly evolved to adapt to user needs. Notable improvements include the ability to add music to different slides and the creation of collaborative posts, where multiple users can contribute to the same carousel. With the new 20-item limit, these features become even more meaningful, especially for collective posts.

Competition with TikTok 🎶

This Instagram evolution also seems to be a direct response to TikTok, which already allows up to 35 photos to be published in a single post. Although TikTok is primarily known for its short videos, photos have also found their place there, often used to tell stories or follow specific trends. By doubling its carousel limit, Instagram could encourage its users to adopt similar formats.

The update to the carousel feature is further proof of the growing competition between these two social media giants. Each platform seeks to offer its users ever more possibilities to share their content in creative and engaging ways.
