The Windows 11 24H2 update, rolled out this month, enhances the operating system’s performance and introduces new features. However, technical issues are affecting many users. Microsoft has halted the deployment on certain devices due to bugs impacting system stability, particularly on Asus laptops and webcams.

A Problematic Update for Some Asus Devices 🚨

From the early stages of the rollout, numerous users of Asus laptops, mainly the X415KA and X515KA models, reported major malfunctions, including blue screens of death (BSOD) and the inability to complete the installation.

Microsoft, in collaboration with Asus, quickly identified the issue. It involves incompatibility with certain hardware components in these devices. This prompted Microsoft to temporarily block the update on these specific models. They advised users not to manually install version 24H2 via the Media Creation Tool or Installation Assistant. Forcing the installation could cause more severe malfunctions and compromise system stability.

Webcam Issues and Windows Hello Freezing 📸🖥️

Another bug in the 24H2 update concerns the use of built-in webcams on several devices. Microsoft confirmed that enabling object detection or facial recognition features in apps like Camera or Windows Hello can cause these apps to freeze completely.

  • Camera App: When using the webcam with object detection active, the app freezes, and it becomes impossible to access the camera.
  • Windows Hello: Users who have set up facial recognition to log into their computers report that the camera stops working, preventing them from logging in regularly.

These issues have led Microsoft to pause the deployment on affected devices to avoid impacting more users.

Incompatibility with Voicemeeter App and Blue Screens 🔊❌

Another bug related to this update affects the Voicemeeter app, a popular audio mixing tool. After installing version 24H2, several users encounter blue screens reporting a memory management error.

The issue is due to an incompatibility between the Voicemeeter driver and the new memory manager integrated into the update. Microsoft recommends two temporary solutions:

  • Uninstall the Voicemeeter app and its components to restore system stability.
  • Postpone the update installation if the app is essential and wait for a driver fix from Voicemeeter’s developer, VB-Audio.

A Suspended Rollout and Uncertain Users ⛔️

In response to these issues, Microsoft decided to block the 24H2 update on certain devices. However, the lack of a clear system to notify affected users is causing confusion. Some users attempt to force the update installation, risking major malfunctions.

Users of Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or those using Voicemeeter for recordings and mixing are particularly impacted. It is advised to wait for the issues to be resolved before installing the update.
