After a widespread service disruption over the weekend, Orange Cameroon has begun issuing automatic refunds to affected users. In a statement released on July 30, the telecom operator apologized for the incident and laid out its plan to compensate subscribers who experienced losses—particularly those tied to mobile payments.
A network crash with wide-reaching impact ⚠️
On July 26 and 27, 2025, thousands of Orange Cameroon users were hit by a sudden blackout across core services: mobile calls, internet access, and Orange Money transactions. Social media quickly filled with frustrated complaints, as customers reported failed payments and unexplained deductions from their mobile wallets.
Service restoration began around 8:43 AM on Saturday, July 26, according to Orange’s statement. But disruptions lingered—especially at retail outlets, where airtime purchases and top-ups continued to malfunction. USSD codes and mobile apps also suffered from technical issues, limiting access to essential functions.
Behind the scenes: nonstop recovery efforts 🛠️
Orange says it launched a full-scale technical response, mobilizing teams around the clock to stabilize the network and rebuild user trust. “All necessary resources were deployed,” the statement reads, highlighting the company’s urgency in resolving the issue.
A key concern for many users was the loss of funds during failed Orange Money transactions. Orange claims it began processing automatic refunds as early as July 28 and says 99% of affected payments have already been reimbursed. The company promises to resolve remaining cases “as quickly as possible.”
Restoring expired data plans 📶
Beyond mobile payments, some subscribers also lost data due to plan expirations during the outage. Orange says it’s working to restore unused data volumes over the coming days, with a staggered rollout.
As mobile connectivity becomes ever more critical to daily life and business, the July 26 outage highlights how fragile digital infrastructure remains in the face of unexpected technical failures. Orange Cameroon acknowledged the frustration caused and thanked customers for their patience. The company says it’s investing in improved systems to reduce the risk of future disruptions.
