Good news for WhatsApp Android users! After being exclusive to iOS, voice message transcription on WhatsApp is finally coming to Android.
No more need to listen to voice messages 📝
Spotted by WABetaInfo, voice message transcription is available in the beta version 2.24.15.5 of WhatsApp for Android. Voice message transcription allows converting audio messages to text, offering an alternative to listening.
This feature is particularly useful in noisy environments or when you can’t listen to a voice message. It also saves time by quickly reading long voice messages instead of listening to them entirely. Users can also search through transcriptions, making it easier to find content from voice messages without having to relisten to them.
To use this feature, users will first need to download a language pack. Once activated, each voice message, whether received or sent, can be converted to text. Transcriptions are generated directly on the device securely, without going through Meta’s servers. Message confidentiality is thus guaranteed.
A gradual rollout🚂
Currently in the testing phase, voice message transcription will be rolled out to all Android users in the coming weeks. Beta version users can already try this new feature by updating their app via the Google Play Store.
Currently, five languages are available: English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi. French should be added in a future update.

my only issue is that the transcripts won’t be accurate. 😆
otherwise it’s a great idea.
Totally agree. Transcriptions are not always very good with some accents 😆
