Unesco has handed over a substantial batch of digital equipment to Mali’s Ministry of National Education, marking a fresh push to modernize how the country trains its teachers. The delivery, made on July 30, 2026, targets eight Teacher Training Institutes (IFM) and is part of a broader effort to build digital skills among educators and bring technology into everyday classroom practice.

The Unesco Office in Mali and the Unesco International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA) formally handed over the equipment to the Ministry of National Education. The delivery is part of a project titled « Strengthening teacher capacities to promote continuous and inclusive access to safe, quality education for girls in West Africa, » implemented by Unesco-IICBA with financial backing from the government of Japan.
The package includes 40 laptops, 16 all-in-one computers, and 32 tablets dedicated to digital teaching. It also comes with 8 projectors, 8 interactive whiteboards, 8 multifunction printers, and 8 data backup devices — kit meant to strengthen both initial and ongoing teacher training, and to help embed digital tools more firmly into everyday classroom practice.
The equipment is expected to diversify teaching and learning methods, encouraging more interactive, collaborative approaches built around learners’ actual needs. Officials say the donation should also help raise the overall quality of instruction, boost student engagement, and foster a more innovative, inclusive learning environment.

Malian authorities described the donation as a significant contribution to modernizing education administration, and said it would help accelerate the digital transformation of the country’s education system more broadly. They also praised the sustained commitment shown by Unesco’s Mali office and Unesco-IICBA in supporting the ministry.
