Microsoft now offers Office 2024 with a perpetual license, marking a shift from the Microsoft 365 subscription model. Here’s what the new version brings in terms of features and pricing.

One-time purchase, Office 2024 without a subscription 🛍️

With Office 2024, Microsoft allows users to acquire a perpetual license, a first since 2021. This means, unlike Microsoft 365 which operates on an annual subscription, Office 2024 can be purchased with a one-time payment. Two options are available :

• Office Home 2024 at €149 (approximately 96,850 FCFA): This version includes basic tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote for personal use on PC or Mac.
• Office Home and Small Business 2024 at €299 (about 194,350 FCFA): In addition to the basic tools, this version includes Outlook and allows for commercial use.

For comparison, a Microsoft 365 subscription costs €69/year (44,850 FCFA) for individual users and €99/year (64,350 FCFA) for a family plan (up to six people).

Locked version and limited updates 🔄

Office 2024 versions won’t receive the regular new features available to Microsoft 365 subscribers. However, they will still receive security updates. Essentially, users get the stability of the suite without frequent tool additions or enhancements.

Key new features of Office 2024🆕

Despite this difference, Office 2024 introduces several exciting features in each of its applications :

• Excel 2024: Users will appreciate improved performance, especially for managing multiple workbooks. The new « IMAGE » function simplifies web image integration, and dynamic tables in charts offer automatic data updates, streamlining data analysis.
• PowerPoint 2024: Two major features, « Cameo » and « Recording Studio, » are added. Cameo allows live video feeds to be inserted directly into slides, making presentations more interactive. Recording Studio enables the recording of narrations, animations, and transitions for smoother, more professional presentations.
• Outlook 2024: A new automatic email accessibility checker is included. Additionally, search capabilities are optimized to deliver more relevant results in messages, attachments, and contacts. Mac users now benefit from customizable swipe gestures.
• Word 2024: Word enhances its handling of unexpected interruptions with a session recovery feature, automatically restoring open documents. Additionally, a « reactions » feature allows users to respond to comments in documents with « likes, » facilitating collaboration.

New interface and compatibility 🎨

Office 2024 adopts a graphical redesign inspired by the aesthetic of Windows 11, with a more modern and streamlined interface. This version is compatible with Windows 10, Windows 11, and the last three versions of macOS.

Installation and activation require a Microsoft account and an Internet connection, but once installed, the suite can be used offline, except for security updates.
