Manufacturers very often come to MWC with products from the future in their boxes. If they are essentially concepts, they give us a glimpse of what these companies are working on. In the case of Xiaomi and Oppo, it is about Augmented Reality.
Xiaomi looks to the future with its augmented reality glasses 😎
Xiaomi didn’t come empty-handed to MWC this year, quite the contrary. The company brought with it what should be the next consumer technology revolution: augmented reality glasses. Unlike virtual reality headsets that immerse you in a completely virtual world, augmented reality glasses simply add virtual elements to reality, such as displaying an arrow to show you a path in life when you look in a direction. Xiaomi offers us a taste with its Xiaomi Wireless AR Smart Glass Discovery Edition, which you can discover in the video below.
Before you rush to your bank card, it should be made clear that this is just a concept. It is only the materialization of an idea that Xiaomi wants to set up, and on which the manufacturer is working. The headset is currently not available for sale.
As shown in the video, these glasses are not independent and work in conjunction with the smartphone. Xiaomi promises that they will be able to follow the hand and support a full range of applications for larger screens. The journalists on site were able to see demos of navigation on Internet pages or video games with elements present in real life.
Oppo goes for all-round glasses 🤓
Unlike Xiaomi, Oppo chooses less imposing, more minimalist glasses. Called Oppo Air Glass 2, these glasses can go unnoticed. But if they are light compared to those of Xiaomi, they are also light in terms of features. They do not offer finger tracking, and everything is controlled via a swipe on the left arm of the glasses, as well as a simple button. The interface is also quite simple with a green font color, and offers basic features like teleprompter, music player, audio calls, navigation and translation.
Just like Xiaomi’s glasses, this is a concept that is still in development. But what do you think of this taste of the future? Tell us in comments.
