  • Abstracted  from the web version, Google Translate now permits to translate texts from images
  • Google Translate improves its translation service and the ability to translate automatically

Who doesn’t know the famous Google Translate, Google’s universal translation tool available both on mobile and on the web? However, this technology has its shortcomings, since nowadays we refer to other software such as Deepl or Grammarly.  The mobile version seems to be more complete with features that are not available in the web version, such as text translation from images. Google has decided to correct this with an update

Google Translate enhances its web formula💻👌🏾

In a blog post published on Google’s technical support, the Mountain View firm has just confirmed the arrival of the translation of texts contained in images on the web version of Translation.

« We’ve heard your feedback and are excited to announce that image translation is now available on Translate.google.com. This feature will be rolled out in the coming days. We’d love to know what you think about this new experience, » the web giant writes.

Good news, the option is available on the English version of the tool. To take advantage of it, nothing could be easier :

  •       Go to the Google Translate homepage,

  •     Click on the Images tab, right next to the Text button.
  •     Drag the image of your choice into the frame or import one from your computer files to automatically translate the text.
All available languages are displayed on the top right, and it is possible to put the original image and the translated version side by side. Beware, however, that some display defects may appear depending on the chosen language. We’ll be satisfied with this while waiting for more improvements.
As a reminder, since December 2022, the camera function of Google Translate on smartphone is now supported by Google Lens. In this way, Google offers users more relevant results, thanks to the contribution of its AI.
How about the text translation component? Any improvements or not?

Google keeps improving its translation

It should be remembered that Google is working on even more important improvements for its translator. For example, in February, the firm announced a new feature designed to give the user more context, so that he or she does not make a mistake in the translation (a word or phrase can have many translations, depending on the context in which it is used).

And this is just the beginning. Google is planning to test other experiments based on artificial intelligence for its translation tool. The company is also developing a new approach that will allow it to offer machine translation to new languages. The aim is to support a total of 1,000 languages. And to achieve this, Google is using a new AI.
