Apple TV arrives on Android: too late or a genius move? 📺

After five years of waiting, Apple has finally decided to open its streaming service to Android users. Now available on the Play Store, the Apple TV app allows access to the entire Apple TV+ catalog, as well as the MLS Season Pass for football fans. This marks a turning point for Apple, which has long been reluctant to bring its ecosystem to the world’s most widely used mobile OS.

A complete app… with some limitations📲

Good news: the Android app doesn’t cut corners. It includes Apple TV+’s key features, such as device synchronization, resume playback, a watchlist, and even an offline mode to enjoy content without an internet connection. Whether switching from an iPhone to an Android tablet, users will find a seamless and consistent experience.

However, some notable omissions might frustrate certain users. Chromecast support is missing for now (an update is expected), and purchasing or renting movies via the iTunes Store is not possible. This version of Apple TV is clearly designed to push its streaming service rather than replace a rental or purchase platform.

Why now? The strategy behind this decision 🧐

This launch on Android is no coincidence. Apple TV+ struggles to compete in subscriber numbers with giants like Netflix, Disney+, or Prime Video. Despite having a smaller catalog, the platform has distinguished itself with award-winning series and films such as Severance, Ted Lasso, CODA, and Killers of the Flower Moon.

By arriving on Android, Apple can expand its audience and reach users it had previously ignored. With a 7-day free trial, the company hopes to attract new subscribers and boost its international presence.

Apple TV+ on Android: a game changer? 🚀

Bringing Apple TV+ to Android is a logical yet overdue move. For users, it’s great news—they can finally access high-quality content without needing an Apple device. For Apple, it’s a strategic step to attract a new audience and strengthen its position in the streaming wars.

The real question is whether this move will be enough to convince Android users to subscribe. Apple TV+ has a lot to offer, but in such a competitive market, it will take more than just an app to carve out a lasting place on Android.
