You often hear about beta versions of WhatsApp or iOS. But what is a Beta version? 🧐

A development phase

An application or an OS goes through several stages of development, one of which is the beta version. This beta version, often unstable, is made available to a limited group of users, called « beta testers », in order to gather feedback, detect errors and solve problems before the official release.

Open or closed beta

There are generally two main types of beta versions:

• Open beta: The product is made available to the general public or to a large group of interested users.
• Closed beta: The beta version is offered to a select group of users – internal testers, corporate partners or specifically chosen users.
