Online commerce is booming in Cameroon, driven by digital growth. Platforms such as Glotelho, Diool, KmerTechShop, and others have transformed shopping habits by allowing consumers to order directly from their phones and receive deliveries without leaving their homes. However, despite these advancements, Cameroonians remain divided over the quality of services.
A growing market 📈
Online shopping is becoming increasingly popular in Cameroon for several reasons. It saves time, reduces mobility constraints, and provides access to a wider variety of products, including high-tech gadgets, home appliances, clothing, cosmetics, and even food items. Additionally, occasional promotions and exclusive deals make online shopping more attractive. Some platforms offer significant discounts, making purchases more advantageous. Payment methods generally include Orange or Mobile Money, while some consumers prefer to pay upon delivery to be more cautious.

Despite these challenges, some platforms are working to improve their services and gain consumer trust. Among the most well-known are :
- Glotelho: Specializing in electronics and office equipment.
- KmerTechShop: A local alternative for high-tech products.
Additionally, many vendors use Facebook and WhatsApp pages to reach customers directly. Some initiatives are also emerging to regulate the sector and provide guarantees to buyers. These include secure payment solutions where money is held until the product is confirmed as received. Others prefer paying on delivery after verifying the product.
Improving e-commerce in Cameroon 🛠️
For online commerce to become a truly reliable alternative to traditional shopping, digital marketing experts suggest several improvements. Platforms need to enhance seller verification to prevent scams and ensure product quality. Furthermore, delivery times should be improved, and better order tracking should be ensured.
« Clear refund and return policies must be established. This allows customers to easily get a refund or exchange a defective product. We also need to educate buyers on recognizing trustworthy sites and avoiding scams, » says Didier Nguimane, a digital marketing expert.
Indeed, e-commerce in Cameroon presents an opportunity for both consumers and entrepreneurs. However, many challenges remain. While online shopping is attracting more people, delivery delays, scams, and quality issues still hinder its full adoption.
