Guinea is taking a decisive step toward digitizing its education system. Led by Minister of National Education Alpha Bacar Barry, the country has launched a centralized, secure digital registry for students starting in primary school.

The goal is straightforward but ambitious: improve how the education system is managed by relying on accurate, up-to-date data from day one. Just 24 hours after the official launch, education authorities began rolling out hands-on training for local administrators, signaling a rapid shift from announcement to execution.

Intensive training to ensure proper rollout 🖥️

Exam officers and data managers from regional education inspectorates (IRE), prefectural directorates (DPE), and communal directorates (DCE) are currently undergoing training supervised by the Directorate General of Examinations and School Control.

Structured as practical workshops, these sessions focus on student registration, digital database management, and securing academic records. A strong emphasis is placed on data accuracy and continuous updates—two critical pillars for building a reliable national education database.

At the core of the reform is a simple but transformative idea: uniqueness. Each child will now receive a unique digital identifier, enabling consistent tracking throughout their academic journey while reducing administrative errors and duplicate records.

Modernizing education governance 📊

Beyond the technical upgrade, this initiative marks a broader governance reform. With consolidated data available from the primary level onward, the government can more effectively plan school infrastructure, forecast teacher recruitment needs, and fine-tune public education policies based on real-world insights.

Digitizing student enrollment also strengthens transparency and equity. By mapping enrollment data more precisely, authorities can identify underserved regions and allocate educational resources more strategically.

As local services take ownership of the system, the digital enrollment platform is emerging as a cornerstone of Guinea’s broader digital transformation agenda. In this new model, education data becomes a central driver of planning, accountability, and decision-making.
