As at the start of every year, Samsung held its Galaxy Unpacked presentation to unveil its flagship smartphones for the year. And the least we can say is that the evolution is going smoothly.

A new design ✨

Samsung’s new top-of-the-range smartphones see their design evolve in the new year. From the back, there’s virtually no difference from their predecessors, but it’s in the small details that the evolution takes place. The slices are now straight, reminiscent of those found on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 or Z Flip 5.

The screen, meanwhile, is still flat and has thinner edges than last year. It’s still a bubble screen, called Infinity-O Dynamic Amoled 2X. The S24’s screen measures 6.2 inches for an FHD+ definition of 2340 x 1080 pixels, with an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz. As for the S24+, it measures 6.7 inches with a QHD+ definition of 3120 x 1440 pixels, also with an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz. Both are very bright, with peak brightness of up to 2600 cd/m².

In terms of dimensions, the S24 measures 147 x 70.6 x 7.6 mm for 167 grams, and the S24+ measures 158.5 x 75.9 x 7.7 mm for 196 grams. They will be available in several colors: black, silver, indigo, cream, blue, green and orange. The latter three are exclusive to the Samsung Store.

The camera evolves very little 📸

At the rear, we find 3 photo sensors similar to those of last year:

  • 50 MP wide angle ;
  • 12 MP ultra-wide angle ;
  • 10 MP telephoto lens.

To run these smartphones, you can count on an Exynos 2400 chip, designed by Samsung. On the Galaxy S24, it’s backed by 8GB of RAM and 128 to 256GB of storage. On the Galaxy S24+, it comes with 12 GB RAM and a more robust cooling system. The S24’s battery has a capacity of 4000 mAh and the S24+’s 4900 mAh. Both smartphones can be recharged at 25 W via wired USB-C, or 10 W wirelessly.

The Galaxy S24 and S24+ are now available for pre-order, for delivery from January 24. The Galaxy S24 costs €899 for the 128GB version and €969 for the 256GB version. The Galaxy S24 Plus, meanwhile, starts at 1169 euros for the 256GB version and 1289 euros for the 512GB version.

AI and a longer lifespan ✨

If the new features of these new smartphones seem timid, that’s because the real novelty this year is AI. With these smartphones, Samsung is introducing its own AI, Galaxy AI. To find out more, you can read our detailed article on the subject by clicking here. But that’s not all. As far as software updates are concerned, this generation of Galaxy smartphones will benefit from 7 generations of Android and 7 years of security updates, an extension of 3 years on previous offers.
