WhatsApp lags behind its competitors like Telegram in several areas, but the Meta app keeps coming up with new features.
Indeed, WABetaInfo, a blog specialized in WhatsApp news, has spotted a brand new one. This feature would allow the creation of conversation groups that automatically disappear at a set expiration date.
Disappearing mode activated for groups
As we know, WhatsApp already allows you to send ephemeral messages that are automatically deleted after a given period of time, either 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days. But what if we told you that this time, the messaging service plans to extend this feature to group conversations?
Specifically, when you create a new group conversation, you will have the option to add an expiration date after which the conversation will automatically disappear from your device.
On the other hand, the group will not be deleted for the members of the conversation, but they will receive a notification to clean up the group, according to information from WABetaInfo. It will be possible to cancel the ephemeral nature of the discussion afterwards. Once the deadline is reached, the messaging system will ask the group administrator if he or she really wants to delete it.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the time limit can be one day, one week or a custom length. And if you want to go back, it will be possible to delete the expiration date so that the group continues to exist.
As you can guess, the feature will come in handy for group conversations created for special occasions, such as birthday parties, gifts for specific events, contributions, organizing one-off events, etc. In addition, it will make it easier to free up storage space, without you having to regularly sort through your conversations.
It will still be necessary to wait a few months before being able to take advantage of this feature. Still in the testing phase, we do not know the date of release of the option on the version of WhatsApp open to all. Until then, we should have more information on these ephemeral groups.
So Stay Tuned.
