The government of Niger has launched a program to equip more than 7,000 teachers with educational tablets. This project aims to improve teaching skills and enhance student monitoring. It is part of the initiative « One teacher, one tablet. »
Tablets adapted to remote regions 📲
These tablets come with dynamic content tailored to all regions of the country, including the most remote areas. Additionally, they have long battery life and come with 21,000 mAh power banks, allowing for up to a week of use without recharging. Moreover, Mamadou Diakité, director of statistics and new technologies at the Ministry of National Education, announced that an additional batch of 3,400 tablets is expected as part of the project.
Furthermore, the « One teacher, one tablet » initiative is part of the LIRE program (Learning Improvement for Results in Education). This program is funded by the World Bank with a budget of $140 million. Its goal is to modernize teaching by using digital tools to improve academic performance. As a result, this initiative addresses the low integration of digital technology in the education system.
Interactive learning through digital tools 🖥️
By integrating these digital tools, the project aims to improve teaching conditions. It offers a more interactive learning experience with various resources, including video lessons, teaching guides, and practical exercises. These materials help teachers enhance their teaching methods and provide more structured support. In addition, the initiative seeks to address the lack of access to textbooks and specialized training in remote regions.
Thus, this initiative aligns with the African Union’s Digital Education Strategy for 2023-2028. This strategy encourages African states to develop national policies for digital transformation in education. By 2027, it aims for 50% of educational institutions across the continent to have reliable and affordable high-speed internet access. It also sets a target for 20% of students and 50% of teachers to have access to digital devices by 2030.
The « One teacher, one tablet » program is therefore designed to modernize teaching by addressing connectivity challenges and providing access to digital tools. Through this initiative, Niger seeks to transform its education system and promote academic success through technology.
