Imagine a music radio station just for you, that plays your favorite hits and chats, telling you why it just played a certain song, and how long it’s been since you listened to the next one… For music addicts and music lovers: the dream. Spotify wants to make that sweet dream come true with its latest feature, called « DJ ».
Let’s discover Spotify’s « DJ » feature 🎧
The most popular music streaming platform Spotify has just unveiled a new feature called « DJ ». It uses artificial intelligence to create your own DJ in your pocket and in your ears, sending you perfect tracks that suit your tastes, following of course the recommendation system already integrated into the application.
The big news is that this DJ talks to you, and gives you a little animated show entirely dedicated to you. The virtual presenter will also give you few information about the artists and the music you are listening to, as you can already find it visually in the classic interface for some tracks. This content is generated in partnership with the Spotify editorial team.
What technology does this feature rely on 🤔?
The Swedish application did not screw on technological means to satisfy and of course retain its listeners. So, we reveal to you the secrets that will revolutionize the streaming :
- Spotify’s powerful algorithms, based on your listening history and preferences, and what they ultimately deem to be your taste, suggest a non-exhaustive playlist of recent and not-so-recent tracks, some of which you haven’t listened to in a long time and some of which you don’t even know.
- OpenAI, the mother of ChatGPT, will play the role of expert. It will be able to find information about your titles. But the information will be retranscribed by this generative AI in audio form, via a synthesized playback technology provided by Sonantic, acquired last summer by Spotify.
And so there you have it, a realistic voice commenting on the songs and artists played, as you can see in the demo video, quite convincing.
Limited Availability Alert 😑
If you’re about to open Spotify, you’ll have to calm down. Currently undergoing testing, this feature is only available to Spotify Premium subscribers using English in the US and Canada. No deadlines are given to the rest of the world.
What do you think of this new feature? Did it make you want to listen your music in loop mode? Tell us about it in the comments.
