Since last year, Microsoft has been engaged in a veritable AI arms race. Virtually all its products, from Bing to Windows to Microsoft 365 (formerly Office), incorporate AI. Microsoft wants to go even further with a new key on your keyboard.

Copilot at your fingertips 🤖

The Windows PC keyboard is familiar to most users around the world. Its layout has hardly changed in almost 30 years. Only the Windows key logos evolve with each version of Microsoft’s operating system. However, as of this year, there will be some changes.

Microsoft aims to make 2024 the year of the AI PC. To this end, the Redmond firm is introducing a new key on the keyboard: the Copilot key. As the name suggests, it will provide access to Microsoft’s Copilot AI. If you don’t know what it is, just click here to find out more. Copilot availability varies from market to market, so if Copilot is not activated on your computer, the key will launch the Windows search.

Now available on new Windows PCs✨

This new key should appear as of now on the various Windows-equipped computers from partner manufacturers of the Windows ecosystem. Dell has set the ball rolling with its new XPS 13, 14 and 16 computers. Look closely to the right of the Space key 😉

This new key will take the place of the Menu key, which is barely used, often ignored, or even removed altogether by some manufacturers. This key gave access to the menu available when right-clicking on Windows. It’s safe to say that it won’t be missed by many.
