Apple unveiled its new MacBook Air with M3 chip in a press release rather than at an event. While the exterior remains unchanged, there are a few new features inside.

New chip = more performance 🚀

After the MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air is now equipped with Apple’s M3 chip, announced for late 2023. The M3 chip features 8 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores, while the Neural Engine has 16 cores. It offers the possibility of integrating up to 24 GB of unified memory and offers storage capacity of up to 2 TB.

Despite having similar characteristics to the M2 chip, the M3 is distinguished by a 3 nm etch fineness, resulting in improved performance. These new MacBook Air models are 60% faster than those equipped with the M1 chip. Apple has announced an 18-hour battery life for its new laptops.

In addition to these improvements, the M3 chip enables the new 13″ and 15″ MacBook Air models to benefit from Wi-Fi 6E instead of the Wi-Fi 6 of previous models. In addition, the two Thunderbolt ports are now capable of supporting two external displays.

A price still as high as ever, for a very fair configuration

The 13-inch MacBook Air M3 will be available from €1,299. The 15-inch version will cost €1,599. At this price, configurations start with just 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The MacBook Air M2, which introduced the range’s new design, remains available in the catalog from €1199. As for the iconic MacBook with its tapered edge, it’s retiring.
