You can now hide some chats on WhatsApp 🔐

To protect your WhatsApp conversations, until now, you could lock down full access to the app using fingerprint, Face ID or a password. The messaging app goes one step further by allowing you to lock only specific conversations.

Confidential conversations now have their own file 🔐

Called « Chat Lock », WhatsApp believes that this new feature « will be great for people who have reason to share their phones from time to time with a family member or those moments where someone else is holding your phone at the exact moment an extra special chat arrives ».

Locking a chat is very simple. Just tap on a person’s or group’s name, then select « Lock Chat ». The chats you’ve chosen to lock will disappear from your list of chats into a « Locked Chats » folder at the top of the list. To access it, drag your discussion list down to reveal the folder. You’ll then need to unlock the folder using your fingerprint, Face ID or a password.

It’s important to know that your locked chats are not locked on your other connected devices. In the coming months, WhatsApp will be adding more options for locking chats, including locking for connected devices and the ability to create a custom password for your chats, so you can use a different password than your phone.
