WhatsApp is one of the most widely used messaging applications in the world. Yet the instant messaging application is not available on iPad, only on iPhone. However, after a long wait, the time has finally come!

WhatsApp finally comes to iPad

There was a time when Apple users had to make do with using WhatsApp on their tablet via a web browser or by using a third-party application – and this came with its own risks. By the way, WhatsApp isn’t the only Meta application not available on iPad. While Messenger and Facebook are available – although the social network’s app is of mediocre quality – Instagram and Threads are absent.

The release of a WhatsApp app for iPad has been expected for several years, but no concrete progress has been made until now. According to WABetaInfo, a recent beta version of the app is now compatible with iPadOS!

So how does it work?

This version is very similar to the one developed for macOS. It works even when the iPhone is not nearby or not connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
However, it does require « Companion Mode« , a feature introduced in May on iOS, which allows users to define a primary device and secondary devices, so that they can be synchronized and used at the same time. So, after downloading the app, you’ll need to scan a QR code from your smartphone (iOS or Android) to pair the devices and download your conversations.

Unfortunately, access to the application is currently limited. The beta version is available via TestFlight, Apple’s program for installing preliminary versions of applications, but the number of places is limited.
To date, no official roll-out date has been announced, but the wait could extend over several months. Indeed, the macOS version was made available to the general public almost a year after the beta version.
However, Meta seems to be paying particular attention to its instant messaging at the moment. Between a graphical redesign of the interface, new features for desktop applications, text formatting options and interoperability with other messaging services, WhatsApp is more seductive than ever!
Let’s just hope we can enjoy it soon.
