It’s official! After Instagram and WhatsApp, Meta announces the arrival of broadcast channels on Facebook.
Place aux canaux de diffusion sur Facebook et Messenger 📢
« Broadcast channels are coming to Facebook and Messenger in the next few weeks, » announced Mark Zuckerberg. Largely inspired by the feature initially offered by Telegram, broadcast channels (Click here to read the article about it) have enjoyed growing success over the course of the year on Instagram, where they were rolled out in early 2023, with some channels gathering several million subscribers before being rolled out on WhatsApp.
We’re currently testing the ability for Pages to create broadcast channels and expect to roll this out in the coming weeks. Anyone on Facebook can join these broadcast channels to stay up to date on the latest from their favorite Pages.
As a reminder, broadcast channels work like limited group discussions. A creator can invite his or her subscribers, then broadcast written messages, voice messages, videos, photos or publish polls. They represent a more intimate way of connecting creators to their followers. What could be better than some interaction to keep a social platform alive 😉
How does it work?
Facebook page administrators will be able to create broadcast channels directly from their pages. Once a channel has been created, page subscribers will receive a notification inviting them to join the channel.
Only the creator will be able to post messages, but all subscribers will be able to react to them and vote in polls. Notifications will also be sent to subscribers whenever a creator publishes content in their channel.
Creators can create a channel directly from their Facebook page, and subscribers can find them in their discussions.
It will also be possible to join a broadcast channel directly from the profile of the page you follow on Facebook, and to check the list of your channels from your discussion list. Although the broadcast channels are still in the testing phase, some have already been created (Netflix, WWE, League of Legends…), but are not accessible in all countries. You can, however, join a waiting list to be notified as soon as the feature is available and benefit from early access.
